Everyone has guilty pleasure shows that they secretly enjoy watching even if the show is silly, weird or unpopular. Here's my guilty pleasures this summer... no judging! Keep an eye out for other What I'm Watching posts, but this will be the last one for a bit. Enjoy!
TV
Expedition Unknown: Punny archeologist investigates lost cities and mythic characters? All the yes, in my book.
American Ninja Warrior: Heartwarming stories of people overcoming hardship and athletic prowess competition? I do love Akbar Gbaja-Biamila.
America's Got Talent: Got sucked right into this one for the first time this year. With millions of viewers, should I feel guilty about this one?
Aussie Gold Hunters: Just like Deadliest Catch but instead of fish in the arctic, it's gold in the Australian desert.
The Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce: A bit like The Good Wife minus the legal drama. Initially started watching purely because Janine Garofolo is in the first season and I love her.
Midsomer Murders: Murder in the English countryside? Right up my alley.
The Last Kingdom: Vikings with a heart. It's delightful and pretty well written.
The Investigator: A British Crime Story: More murder in the UK.
Lovesick: British comedy that was actually funny and very much worth watching. Not feeling guilty about this one at all actually.
Oliver Stone's Untold History of the United States: Definitely fell asleep a few times, but also learned a lot of interesting perspectives on recent history.
Riverdale: Archie comic brought to life on the CW, modernized and with a twist! Fun, but definitely meant for a younger generation.
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency: What a weird ride! Still cannot watch Elijah Wood without thinking of the precious.
Girlboss: Loosely based on Nasty Gal Founder, Sophia Amoruso, story of a girl with grit who finds her passion in fashion and becomes her own boss.
Wet Hot American Summer: 10 Years Later: Because why not?
FILMS
Casting JonBenet: Zero guilt about this one. Fascinating documentary in an experimental style.
Amanda Knox: Did she do it?? Loved seeing her interview.
Icarus: Another not so guilty documentary choice. Starts out as an investigation of doping in professional sports and unravels into a thriller.
Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates: Everyone needs some dumb funny sometimes.
Tickled: Doc about competitive tickling? It gets creepier.
Mommy Dead and Dearest: Family circumstances leading up to a daughter murdering her mother. Not for the faint of heart.
Solitary: Inside Red Onion State Prison: Real prisoners discuss the complexities of living in solitary in this fascinating doc. .
Butter: Adoption. Adult over-acheivers. And a butter carving competition. Enough said.
